Product description

The determination of volatile hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in liquid, solid, and gaseous samples is now particularly simple and reliable. Efficient gas extraction ensures that H2S is completely released from the sample. The separated H2S gas is directed to a highly sensitive sensor that accurately detects concentrations in the range of 0.01 to 10,000 ppm. Depending on the sample composition, the typical measurement time ranges from 5 to 30 minutes.

The Sulfimax GX H2S analyzer from ECH can be expanded with a new heating module for headspace-based sample preparation. The sample is placed into a glass vial and heated in the headspace module. Depending on the nature of the sample, heating temperatures from 35 to 250 °C can be selected.

Interferences caused by mercaptans, which are commonly encountered especially in oil samples, can be effectively avoided by using an oil wash vessel. This allows even high mercaptan concentrations to be handled reliably.

The compact and robust system is characterized by simple and intuitive operation. With the Sulfimax GX vario PLUS, fully automated H2S determination is now possible for the first time—without manual handling of digestion reagents.

Applications

The Sulfimax measurement systems from ECH for H2S determination, in combination with the vario Headspace Module, enable the analysis of the following sample types:

  • Solid samples, e.g. elemental sulfur, sludge, bitumen
  • Liquid samples, e.g. wastewater with or without sludge particles, sewage sludge
  • Crude oil and petrochemical products
  • Process waters
  • Gas samples, e.g. process gases, LPG
  • Soil samples and waste

Advantages

  • Simple expansion of Sulfimax GX H₂S analyzers for automation
  • No sample preparation required for highly viscous samples
  • Detection of very low H₂S concentrations
  • Suppression of cross-sensitivity to mercaptans
  • Fully enclosed extraction vessels
  • Cost-effective chemicals and vials
  • Low waste generation (no organic cleaning solvents or cartridges required)

Features and Results

  • Measurement of the sample in a sealed 20 mL disposable vial – no contact between the sample and components of the analysis system
  • Gas extraction method for rapid release and separation of H₂S from the sample
  • Temperature control from 35 to 250 °C
  • Measurement time from 5 to approx. 30 minutes, depending on the H₂S and mercaptan content of the sample
  • Double-needle system for gas transfer
  • Bypass circuit for continuous gas flow
  • Automatic conditioning after each measurement
